BEFORE you phone in a bomb threat ? consider the consequences.
The Explosive Act 26 of 1956 as amended states
1. (a) any person who in any matter threatens or
falsely alleges, knowing it to be false, that any other person intends to cause an explosion whereby life or property is or may be endangered or in order to intimidate any person;
(b) communicates false information, knowing it to be false, regarding any explosion or alleged explosion or any attempt or alleged attempt thereto,
Shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to imprisonment without option of a fine for a period of not less than 3 years and not more than 15 years.
The Intimidation Act 72 of 1982 as amended, states
1. Any person with the intent to put in fear or to demoralize or to induce the general public, a particular section of the population or the inhabitants or a particular area in the Republic to do or to abstain from doing any act, in the Republic or elsewhere:
(a) commits an act of violence or threatens or attempt to do so;
(b) etc ?
shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine which the court may in its discretion deem fit or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding 25 years or to such fine and such imprisonment.
